Last season, more than 250 student-athletes from the EMEA region competed in NCAA men’s basketball, including 27 from the UK and Northern Ireland.
Last season saw Kentucky take the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship title after overcoming Kansas in the final at the Superdome in New Orleans. The National Champions have lost their entire title-winning side in the NBA draft – including overall number one pick Anthony Davis, who has since won an Olympic gold with USA Basketball and joined the New Orleans Hornets – but a number of talented youngsters, including 6-foot-11 center Nerlens Noel, are ready to replace them.
Indiana’s power forward Cody Zeller and UCLA shooting guard Shabazz Muhammad are two elite prospects that are tipped to shine this season and follow Davis into the NBA in the future. ESPN.com’s pre-season rankings rate Zeller’s Indiana as the favourites for this year’s crown, with teams including Louisville, UCLA and Ohio State also expected to be in contention when the season reaches its climax.
The early season line-up of live games on ESPN America includes five match-ups back-to-back from 5pm on Tuesday 13th November. The contests include two teams in the top ten of ESPN’s preseason rankings taking part in the Champions Classic, as Michigan State and Kansas face each other and perennial powerhouse Duke take on reigning NCAA champions Kentucky.
Alongside ESPN America’s extensive coverage, ESPN will also feature select games throughout the season, and regular editions of ESPN’s award-winning studio programs, College Basketball Live and College GameDay, will keep viewers up to date with the latest news and highlights from across all of the 32 top conferences.
