Bay Roberts, NL Named First Tour Stop on the Kraft Celebration Tour;Will Host TSN and Kraft in August

Toronto, ON (July 13, 2010) – The votes are in! After a record number of votes were cast online from coast to coast, Bay Roberts, Newfoundland has been named the first winning community in the Kraft Celebration Tour.

 

As part of the Kraft Celebration Tour, Bay Roberts hosts a special edition of SPORTSCENTRE featuring anchors Darren Dutchyshen and Jennifer Hedger when they kick off the tour with a live broadcast from the Newfoundland community on Friday, Aug. 20 at 6 p.m. ET.

 

Bay Roberts also receives a $25,000 community refresh from Kraft Canada that goes towards installing lights around the outdoor walking track at Wilbur Sparkes Recreation Complex.

 

Located on the north shore of Conception Bay, Bay Roberts is the largest town on the Baccalieu Trail with a population of 5,400. The Wilbur Sparkes Recreation Complex supports active living in the community with its sports fields and walking trails.

 

Bay Roberts was named to the Kraft Celebration Tour after winning a national head-to-head online vote over Stephenville, NL. Bay Roberts received the most votes ever for a single community in the history of the Kraft Celebration Tour.

 

Canadians can decide the other winning communities for the Kraft Celebration Tour over the next two weeks. One pair of communities is featured per day through July 23, and Canadians can visit www.TSN.ca/kraftcelebrationtour or www.RDS.ca/tourneedecelebrationkraft to vote for their favourite Kraft Celebration Tour nominations. Voting is unlimited and runs from 12 noon ET each day for a 24-hour period.

 

During the voting period, SPORTSCENTRE on TSN and SPORTS 30 on RDS highlight the day’s featured match-up with a look at the dueling communities and their proposed community refreshes. Results of each vote will be announced the following day on SPORTSCENTRE and SPORTS 30.

 

The other communities selected as finalists for the Kraft Celebration Tour, along with their match-ups and scheduled voting dates, are as follows:

· Wednesday, July 14: Gagetown, NB vs. Pictou, NS

· Thursday, July 15: Pinawa, MB vs. Steinbach, MB

· Friday, July 16: Abrams Village, PE vs. Georgetown, PE

· Monday, July 19: Indian Head, SK vs. Outlook, SK

· Tuesday, July 20: Wakefield, QC vs. Beauceville, QC

· Wednesday, July 21: Fort Macleod, AB vs. Wetaskiwin, AB

· Thursday, July 22: Elmvale, ON vs. Brighton, ON

· Friday, July 23: New Westminster, BC vs. Nelson, BC
